Enrolment

You are eligible for benefits on your date of hire and must enrol within your first 31 calendar days of employment. Benefit coverage begins on the first of the month following one month of employment.

If you are transferring from part-time or on-call status to full-time status, you must enrol within 31 calendar days of your status change date. Benefits are effective on the first of the month following one month of full-time employment. (Quebec associates are covered in accordance with RAMQ).

Life Events

If you have a change in your life, you may be able to make certain changes to your benefit elections within 31 days of the event.

Life Event Benefit Elections Change:
Moving in or out of the province of British Columbia Adding or changing provincial medical coverage
Newly married or reaching 12 months for common law status Adding family medical coverage
Divorce/separation or death of spouse Removing family coverage
New child in the family Adding child to coverage

Events that Require Sun Life Approval

You can request the following changes to your benefits at any time, but the change may be subject to Sun Life approval, and you may have coverage limitations for the first 12 months.

Evidence of Insurability is required if:

  • You are a "late entrant," meaning you apply for insurance after the enrolment periods stated above
  • You reapply after your insurance has terminated due to non-payment of premium
  • Your amount of life insurance exceeds or increases beyond the No-Evidence Limit
Benefit Change: You Must Provide Sun Life With:

Family health coverage change 31 days after hire or life event Evidence of Insurability
Dental benefits are limited to $200 for the first 12 months.

Associates can access the on-line benefits enrollment system by following these instructions:

Home Office associates: Go to JonesNet>Associate Information>Jones Associate Connection

  1. Enter your User Name and Password.
  2. Select Benefits > Add/Edit > Benefits Enrollment System.

Have the following information available when entering your information in the on-line benefits enrollment system:

  • Dependents' birth date and personal health number (residents of British Columbia)
  • Dependents' birth date and personal health number (residents of British Columbia)
  • Your personal health number (residents of British Columbia)
